Since its inception in 1971, the hospital has remained unwavering in its commitment to providing quality healthcare to society. In the early 1970s, Kerala lacked affordable medical centers with quality facilities. To bridge this gap, the Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital was registered with the mission of delivering top-tier healthcare at affordable rates, particularly to the underprivileged. Initially operating from a five-story building near Ernakulam South Railway Station until 1986, the hospital recognized the need for expansion. Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital, situated on 2.5 acres in the heart of Kochi, stands as a pioneering venture in the co-operative sector. With a mission to uplift society by providing quality healthcare to all, especially the weaker sections, the hospital has achieved remarkable milestones over its 54 years of service. . On September 17, 1986, the new hospital complex was inaugurated by then-Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi. The hospital boasts highly experienced doctors

    across 25 departments, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatric, Gynecology, and Super-specialties. A state-of-the-art Oncology Center, led by eminent Medical oncologist Dr. V.P. Gangadharan, and Surgical Oncologist Dr. Jojo V. Joseph. have gained public trust. Meanwhile, oncology services continue to expand, offering significant discounts and free nutritious meals for cancer patients in collaboration with the Cochin Cancer Society. As part of its commitment to early detection and prevention, the hospital conducts free breast cancer screenings every Thursday, offering mammograms at no cost and subsidized treatment for diagnosed cases. In line with its vision to provide comprehensive cancer care, the hospital is developing a state-of-the-art cancer center that will deliver world-class treatment while ensuring affordability for all patients. Plans for further expansion and modernization are underway to ensure the provision of cutting-edge medical care.
